The renovation Westbeth is undertaking is the most comprehensive since the 1970 conversion from industrial space to apartments. The goal of the project is to ensure the long-term stability of Westbeth as affordable housing for artists and as a complex that supports the development and presentation of art. To that end, Westbeth is investing in new roofs, elevators, energy efficiency infrastructure, beautification of its historic façade, and replacing nearly 700 windows. Within two years, Westbeth will renovate 32 vacant apartments – this will off the opportunity for 32 new artists and families to move here and add to Wesbeth’s vibrant community.”

New Windows

“Diana Jensen’s apartment was the second to have installed the new wood windows which are key component of Westbeth’s renovation. The custom-fabricated windows are triple-paned for energy and sound insulation. The weight-and-chain design means that the windows open easily and smoothly. Like the windows they are replacing, these new mahogany windows will last for many decades. Diana told us she loves her new windows and allowed us to take her portrait in front of them.”
